NEW:  LEVELS AKC S.T.A.R. PuppysmClass is here!

What is Level's class?
A Levels class is Puppy Class divided into three training levels:
Level One: develops the very beginnings of the learning process.
Level Two: builds on those behaviors and introduces new behaviors.
Level Three: builds on all of the previously introduced behaviors and introduces more new behaviors.

Why Levels Class?
A puppy's training needs to start as soon as possible.  Now, there is no need to wait for class to start. Puppy Class Level One starts every other week--jump in when you are ready!

Why three levels?
In order to make the progression from new puppy thru AKC STAR PUPPY, a dog needs to learn different  'levels' of a behavior.  Each week the traditional class covers more difficult criteria of a behavior.  However, with three distinct Levels, the dog can stay at one level of learning until he masters the material – one week or more. The owner and dog don’t have to keep up with the class, they learn at the dog’s pace.

What is the advantage to me?
First, you work at your dog’s pace v.s. the pace set by the group or the class curriculum.  If your dog needs more time to master a behavior, you can take the time. If your dog already knows that level's behaviors, you attend one week and move to the next level!
For AKC STAR Puppy class only: you can skip a week without penalty!  You have 9 weeks to complete the 6-week session.  Vacation? Spay or Neuter? Need to work overtime?  Kids sports?  Now there is no reason to delay training till your schedule clears.

The AKC S.T.A.R. Puppysm is an exciting new program designed to get dog owners and their puppies off to a good start. The AKC S.T.A.R. Puppysm Program is an incentive program for loving dog owners.  Training classes teach you how to best communicate with your puppy. Organized training classes also provide an opportunity for your dog to socialize with other dogs. In classes aimed at earning the AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy distinction, you’ll be able to get information on all of your puppy-raising questions including housetraining, chewing, and the most effective way to teach practical skills: Come when called, Walk on leash, Sit and Down Stay and Leave objects. AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy training is a natural lead in to the AKC® Canine Good Citizen® Program.Only qualified AKC CGC Evaluators are permitted to teach AKC STAR Puppy class.

Skills taught: Attention to owner, walk on leash, sit, down, come when called.  Special emphasis is on owner's ability to handle the dog and transfer this to the Vet staff and potential Groomers. House training, house manners and general behaviors are discussed.  Exercise plans and mouthing/puppy biting issues are addressed.

Continuing LEVELS Class:  (incorporates the "Adolescent" class and AKC CGC Prep class into a six week levels format):

Classes are held in a six week time period, (unlike the Puppy class which allows the six classes to be completed in a nine week time period).  If special circumstance prevail, permission must be given prior to the start of class.

Builds on the behaviors taught in S.T.A.R Puppy class; this class is geared for age groups 6 months to 2 yrs with prior class experience.  Stationary behavior skills will be expanded to include duration, distractions and distance.  Dogs in this age group often know basic behaviors but are inconsistent.  Dog/owner teams will learn how to create great dogs who listen the first time and every time.  Building time, building solid behavior in spite of distractions and getting distance are covered.  'Movement' behaviors will be expanded to include distractions. By using solid scientific principles, learning theory and positive reinforcement methods, we build a confident, reliable dog with solid behaviors who truly enjoys working with his/her owner..

Private (in-home) classes:

Sometimes working one-on-one is better for the owner-dog team.  Sometimes schedule conflicts make attending a group class difficult or impossible.  Sometimes your dog just needs behavioral issues addressed privately.  Give me a call and we can discuss your needs.

Started in 1989, CGC is a certification program that is designed to reward dogs who have good manners at home and in the community. The Canine Good Citizen Program is a two-part program that stresses responsible pet ownership for owners and basic good manners for dogs. All dogs who pass the 10-step CGC test may receive a certificate from the American Kennel Club.

Training enhances the bond between you and your dog. Dogs who have a solid obedience education are a joy to live with--they respond well to household routines, have good manners in the presence of people and other dogs, and they fully enjoy the company of the owner who took the time to provide training, intellectual stimulation, and a high quality life. Items on the Canine Good Citizen Test include:
Accept a friendly stranger, Sitting politely for petting, Appearance and grooming, Out for a walk (walking on a loose lead), Walking through a crowd, Sit and down on command and Staying in place, Coming when called, Reaction to another dog, Reaction to distraction and Supervised separation

With over 10 years of professional training experience, and many hours of continuing education, I present a class that is informative, fun and creates a successful atmosphere for both the owner and the dog. Feel free to contact me with any questions. I look forward to working with you and your dog.
